The stories were ok, and may have made for good television episodes, but the format of reading scripts is not for me, and three short stories written this way was not something I would have paid full price for had I known. At Comic Con 2014 Joe Hill announced that he would serve as the creative director and will guide the course of the show. Eh.. the artwork was rad as hell! I was gifted this book because I am a huge fan of the old Tales from the Darkside television show. As we all know by now, the team Hill-Rodriguez is a winning one, prone to deliver good stories by Hill, perfectly depicted through Rodriguez's drawing.

Knowing both as well as I do, I can, with some certainty, posit that Tales would have made one hell of a comeba. Joe Hill was asked to write the scripts for 3 pilot episodes of a revival of this show to pitch to networks for a new generation. Fright-Rags’ Tales from the Darkside collection is waiting for you to enter. That said, I don't think I'm being biased when I say that this is an awesome addition to my bookshelf. I really wish this had actually made it to series. There were some cool moments - like the couch hands and jumping out the window - but I didn't care for the good characters. It was interesting to see how this story would have come to life it was allowed to be released. Overall, I'm happy to have this in my collection. While I didn’t love this as much as I hoped I would I did still thoroughly enjoy it! I sought this out because I am a fan of Locke & Key, and this reunites the dream team of writer Hill and illustrator Rodriguez. Some episodes of the series were written by or adapted from the works of famous authors. Nonetheless, the tales do transitional well on paper and made a heck of a graphic novel. But I suppose if two-thirds of a book is good, it at least warrants an okay rating; however, after reading the 3 pilots I can see why the television series wasn’t optioned.
The second story was kind of creepy. After ending production, it was picked up by LBS Communications for barter-based syndication (with the exception of the episode The Apprentice, and a few reruns of earlier episodes which were distributed by Lorimar-Telepictures). The new name reflected Creepshow's focus, that of a live-action EC-based horror comic book of the 1950s like Tales from the Crypt or The Vault of Horror, though the series would not carry the trappings of a comic as Creepshow did. That series will always be one of my favorite graphic novels, and the pairing of Hill and Rodriguez was absolutely perfect. TV's loss is your gain as these all-new tales break out of the shadows and spring to vivid life at Hill's command, accompanied by striking illustrations provided by Charles Paul Wilson III (Wraith).
The third story was the 'scariest' and had a really cool idea, it just all seemed too simple and quick.

I'm not accustomed to reading graphic novels so this was a different experience. Would've much rather seen Hill convert these to short stories. On May 7, 2015, The CW passed on the reboot series of Tales from the Darkside, but it was reported to be of interest to cable networks Syfy, MTV, VH1 and possibly Hulu.

This is a nice addition to my collection, but I hate reading scripts. It's not often that a book will make me long for a TV show, especially one that didn't happen. Not strange like mysterious, rather strange like disjointed/odd. Debuting in October 1983 with a pilot episode and then being picked up for syndication in September 1983, the show ran for 4 seasons through July 1988. It tells stories about different characters. The DVD release contains an altered soundtrack without the original music score. A young boy tells three stories of horror to distract a witch who plans to eat him. The film depicts a kidnapped paperboy who tells three stories of horror to the suburban witch who is preparing to eat him. The last disc of The Final Season contains as a special feature two bonus episodes made by the show's production company which were unused in the original series, "Akhbar's Daughter" and "Attic Suite".

There has to be more. The first, “Lot 249”, is a classic chiller featuring an ancient mummy bringing death to a college campus. I have not read a Joe Hill book yet but I have heard a lot of good things about him.
