Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina was born on 3rd February 1525, to Santo and Palma Pierluigi. He also helped to found an association of professional musicians called the Vertuosa Compagnia dei Musici. But the role alleged to have been played by this Mass is undoubtedly mythical.
Palestrina was largely influenced by them, and also began composing in the polyphony style. Palestrina's reputation makes it likely, however, that he was consulted on decisions about music… Palestrina's life is generally well documented: He spent all of his career around Rome, working in churches with good archival records. In 1544, Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina joined the Cathedral of St. Agapito, as their organist. The method was widely adopted and was the main basis of contrapuntal training in the 19th century, but Fux had introduced a number of simplifications to the Palestrina style, notably the obligatory use of a cantus firmus in semibreves, which were corrected by later authors such as Knud Jeppesen and R. O. Morris. He is best known for the 104 masses, though he composed in every other liturgical genre of his day, as well as nearly 100 madrigals.

These stories originated from the unofficial points-of-view of some Council attendees who discussed their ideas with those not privy to the Council's deliberations. For the next five years Palestrina directed the choir of St. John Lateran, but his efforts were continually thwarted by singers whose quality was almost as limited as their number, which was restricted because very little money was available for music. There were no local composers using polyphony when composing.
