Spectacularly composed & engineered. Shania worked with four producers across the 16 tracks including Matthew Koma, Ron Aniello (Bruce Springsteen, Gavin DeGraw), Jake Gosling (Ed Sheeran, Shawn Mendes) and Jacquire King (Kings of Leon, Norah Jones). Quality sound is NOT a luxury, it's FOOD for your soul & inspiration. Shania s albums include her Platinum-selling 1993 debut, SHANIA TWAIN; the GRAMMY Award-winning, Double Diamond-selling 1995 release, THE WOMAN IN ME; COME ON OVER, the best-selling studio album in Soundscan history by a female artist in any genre and the best-selling country album of all time with over 40 million units sold worldwide; and UP!, Shania s third consecutive Diamond-selling album release. Yet the specter of her life’s temporary collapse hangs over the album like a shadow. I know that first hand as she had a lot of difficulty in a 2004 concert I attended in Montreal. It’s in this light that Now, her fifth studio album and first in 15 years, feels courageous: a woman who’s enjoyed several careers’ worth of success and pain is searching for a place in a musical landscape that’s unrecognizable compared to her salad days. Shania Twain is the world's best selling female country music artist, notching up an estimated 85 million record sales. NOW, the first studio album for Shania in nearly 15 years, releases on September 29th. Now can’t help but suffer by comparison to Twain’s absolute zenith, both in terms of musical potency and commercial performance. I won't lie and say that her voice is back better than ever, because it's not. I will let these amazing songs continue to work on me!
'You Can't Buy Love' is a fast paced track with a great hook. Now is a pure expression of Twain’s intent: she wrote and produced every song on the album, curated its additional four producers, and laid down strict guidelines regarding their involvement and the album’s sound.
After all, all of her past success was with former husband and co-writer Mutt Lange. Then came 2002’s Up!, Twain’s last album and her most pure-pop record to date, released before a hiatus that ended only two years ago.
A true Shania Twain fan cannot go through life without this new CD. The album is a mix of Country Pop and Ballads, full of Shania's emotions and wonderful sense of humour, and is a welcome addition to my collection. Reviewed in the United States on August 18, 2020. while the 'come on over' album is my all time fave by her...this album is pretty good. I'm very pleased with my Shania Twain CD. She would’ve earned plaudits just for settling into a comfortable Las Vegas residency and the occasional charming cameo on “American Idol” or “Broad City”. Twain is adamant that Now isn’t a “divorce album.” Her marriage to Lange ended nearly a decade ago, and she’s long since moved on and found happiness with her ex-best friend’s own jilted lover. Twain is celebrating the 25th anniversary of the album that turned her into a global superstar. It quite a personal album but worth listening to several times. (”[Radio is] the magnifier,” said UMG Nashville president Cindy Mabe to The New York Times, “but frankly, does she need it? Twain is celebrating the 25th anniversary of the album that … She’s never been able to summon that kind of righteous fury.
With over 137,000 units sold, superstar Shania Twain’s NOW debuted at No. All songs on NOW were written solely by Shania, who also served as co-producer on the project. She’s a global icon.”) There’s an air of inevitability to Twain’s upcoming world tour: she’ll play the hits to legions of adoring fans, and they’ll hit the concession stands as soon as they hear an unfamiliar note. Even after tens of millions of albums sold and a decade-plus out of the spotlight, she still feels a little like your daffy aunt: ready for a campfire singalong, quick with a bottle of Pinot Grigio, and overeager with an exclamation mark. She sounds a world away from the sassy, effervescent icon of “That Don’t Impress Me Much” on songs like “I’m Alright” and “Where Do You Think You’re Going,” piercing and desperate even as they end on hopeful notes. 1 on the Billboard Top Country albums chart, Now also took the No. (Her writing is particularly bleak on the former: “I tried to scream/But silence haunted/Me in my sleep/Oh, and probably always will.”) Even at her bubbliest, darkness is always just outside the rear-view mirror. I do have the greatest measure of respect that Shania has given her heart (and soul) to this latest work. What a shame to completely miss what went into producing this gorgeous album.
